Why do people who want sports cars buy S-Classes?

all the S-classes have loads of comfort, style is a personal taste (I'm still not fully won over by the 221 fender flares yet), but only the AMGs and 600s have speed and performance
the S550 might have speed, but only of not measured against the aforementioned AMGs and 600s

Not to mention actual sports cars that weight 1,200 - 1,300 lbs. less and are pushing 430+ - 500 + horsepower. Though that is an apples & oranges comparison.
I wonder what happened to Jenifer.kaif's post in this thread? Seems her post disappeared from here and from another thread.

AMG E55, Stage 1, Strait Pipe from Primary Cats
My last ride was a S500 as some of you old timers here know. I loved it and miss it too and the worst part is I sold it to my neighbor but the good part is I get to see it drive by my house LOL. I bought the S500 for the smooth refined luxury and the awesome rather sporty lines.. I bought my E55 because I wanted a rocket and it is just that. The E55 really is a two door with four sort to speak IMO.

Whatever they decide upon , I hope they go back to making a Mercedes that looks like an updated Mercedes of old , and not like a current Asian or American car. I like the new E class but I DO NOT like the new taillights. Looks to much like the back end of an Infiniti.
