Question "Houston..we've got a problem."

Right...I've got a couple problems with both our 2000 and 2006 S-Class.

2000 Mercedes-Benz S430 Problems
1. The Left Back door is squeaking and creaking everytime we go over bump. It's like it moves up and down a wee bit. Pushing down on the door stops most of it temporarily...but it comes back.

2. The Sunroof button broke off in the hot weather...how much would that cost to fix?

3. The Door Key Sensors (convience sun opening?) color faded? Could it be touched up and how much would it cost to replace?

2006 Mercedes-Benz S500 Problems
1. The back door windows when pressing the "up" button, sometimes go back down as if it hits something. Window resync? And how would you resync if windows?

2. Trunk with electronic trunk closer: The landing "bumps" I shall call them are unaligned - one is higher than the other..is there a way to change the height so they align?

2006 Mercedes-Benz S500 Questions
1. Rain-sensing windshield wipers: Are all modes rain-sensing or is the first mode the only rain-sensing mode? And do they adjust to speed (it goes faster if there's more rain spray)?

Help and feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

'00 S500 responses:

1. Likely an adjustment problem for the door latch mechanism; could also be contributed to by old weatherstripping.

2. Don't know.

3. Don't know, but if top surface is faded, try a bit of plastic polish to see if that will remove any faded material.

'06 S500 problems:

1. See https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post3682080 (found easily searching with the term "reset"). If water has damaged the Door Control Unit (happens with sloppy window tinting), you could be in for expensive repairs ($600 or so per unit).

2. I don't have the electronic closer, but on either side of the latch on the trunk lid there are round knobs with a square cutout for an Allen head wrench. Try turning those to adjust the height.

Rain sensing wipers: Only the first mode is rain sensing, and in all W220s the speed adjustment does go faster if there is more water on the windshield. Your owner's manual covers this (page 52 in my '05 manual). What's not in the manual is that in the first mode, the '00 tops out at low speed, while the '06 (and my '05) will go to high speed if necessary. I don't know when the change occurred.

Carboys,
I have the same rear window problem, sometimes (usually the left, but occasionally the right rear window) it stops and goes back up. I have tried the electronic reset as well, it seems some weeks it doesnt do it for a while, sometimes quite often. I don't have a solution, just to let you know it must be happening to quite a few people.
Usually dealer response is just to replace something, it is probably $500-$1000 to replace the regulator or whatever is busted, am just choosing to live w/it for now...
I also have strange other bugs such as left hand passenger keyless go handle doesnt make the car lock, the other 3 do...TPMS issue...gives the car its character I guess!!

I'll help you out with the sunroof button later when I'm at work... I bought a Mac laptop and it turns out that EPC/WIS do not work on a Mac.

BTW to everyone, thanks for the help. On the S500, we'll have all the things fixed because we have the extended warranty.

Okay, but it won't match. I'll try looking for one in a different color later. It is quite easy to install?

On the window issue where it suddenly goes the other direction midway through closing or opening,
Push the down button manually all the way down, keep it pressed until the window fully opens, DO NOT release the button until 5 seconds after the window has fully gone down.
Now activate the button to raise the window all the way up, never releasing the button as it goes up, continue to hold the button 5 seconds after the window has closed. This resets the limits on the windows motion. This will usually fix the problem for awhile as the problem may reoccur after a few weeks or months. Otherwise, the dealer is going to want to replace the entire window motor. This problem has been eliminated in the W221s (as far as I can tell).

This has been a notorious problem with MB cars for years
