HEADLIGHT IS OUT... MECHANIC WANTS $200??

my headlight is not working... he mentioned that the ballast may be busted or simply a bulb.. either way he's talking $300 if ballast is bad and around $150 otherwise.. wtf???

well, aside from being in the wrong forum, those prices seem accurate.

$150 for parts and labor to replace an Sl55 headlight bulb is fine. Part is about $20 as I recall, and 1 hour of labor.

If its just a halogen bulb - why can't one DIY? Check owner's manual.

Don't mess with zenon - lethal voltages there.

Since he is referring to ballasts, I assumed he had zenons, which I believe are standard in the sl55.

the oem phillips ballast cost me $200 (cdn) here locally when it went out, the stealer wanted something ridiculous like $600.
