What to look for when buying a S500?

Hello all

I am new here and hope some can help me.

I am looking for a new car now, selling my G500. And I seek a S 500.
Why? Not in the need for a 4*4 more, and more long trips, so I need something with more comfort.

But, what to look for when buying one? What are the red flags to look for?
Airmatic, some say it is good and some say it is good but costing $$$$$ to run......

All help is good.

Have a good day

Confort being your thing, as well as mine my friend. Dynamic seats are a MUST have. Keyless go is also a must, IMHO.

I have posted that I feel Distronic is a waste, again, MHO.

The airmatic, can be costly, but it is NOT an issue with EVERY car here. If posiable, try to step up to the ABC suspension. It really is the cats meow.

Look for a warrenty, and I say this for ALL MB, BMW's, and AUDI's

Good luck

Hello and thank you for the reply.

Yes, a warranty is needed.....with all cars.

Stupid question, what is the ABC suspension? A new airmatic?

Was the Dynamic seats not a standard seat?
Can it also be for the back seats? Or is that only in the long S-class?
I have never had a car with them, so are they THAT good? When did they M-B come with Dynamic seats?

Thanks

ABC is a hydraulic suspension normally found on (S600, S55, S65) Airmatic is Air. (Normally found in S430s and S500s) Both have dampening adjustments and are expensive to maintain, if you let things go. It is best to keep it up than to wait until it fails. It is not a question of if it will fail, but when for both. Best thing is to do your research on here to find out what to look for.

Try this - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...-look-out.html and post #5 (links) at http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...questions.html

Don't let the warnings scare you, that's not what they're for. They are offered to let you evaluate the particular car you're looking at.

Hello

Thanks for the help and great links

So, it does not matter, ABC or Airmatic is going to fail, just a matter of when and where.

Well, better keep them as best one can......And I need to read up on what to look out for.

Thanks for helping me.

Have a good day

If you buy a car with Airmatic, Arnott industries now makes a replacement strut that has a much heavier-walled airbag (at least, some contributors have made this observation). A new Arnott strut costs about $800, half the cost of OE, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. Remanufactured struts are about $400. Arnott recently began offering replacement struts for the 4matics as well as the RWD.

If my struts go, I will look to Arnott airmatic replacements.

The key to avoiding replacement of the airmatic pump is to be sure you have the Hella relay, not the Siemens; and especially, to repair any leaks right away. The pump is relatively small, and running it excessively because of a leaky system or a stuck relay will burn it out.

Hi

Thanks for the tip.
I will take that in mind, and have the Airmatic look up real good, BEFORE I buy my S-class.

And, even do the same, if it got the ABC.

Thanks for helping me out all
