S430 SRS/Pre Safe question
I have a 2005 S430 with two likely related error messages, SRS and Pre safe unavailable. MB service indicated that the SRS problem is with a child seat recognition sensor which they want $671 to R&R. I'm 69YO and believe me I'm not concerned about having a child seat in my car (at least I hope not!). I suspect that the pre safe error is related. My question, is it possible to somehow bypass the child seat sensor and if so how?

I too have that fault and been trying to find a bypass. It seams there is a company somewhere in Europe that makes the electronic board that will do this (they say it is used for "testing"). I have been wanting to order one and TRY to rig it up in my car; just dont know that I want to be the test pilot on it... I thought about contacting a known benz electronic company to do it for me...

If you find out anything let me know. Actually when I had it serviced recently they were able to reset the SRS message but then told me that it'll likely keep coming back.

I canot say if the two problems are related to the same board failure or not - but many seat sensor problems are resolved by disconnecting the connector under the seat, and cleaning the contacts. Give it a try - an inexpensive fix, if it works. Radio Shack contact cleaner will do the job.
