2000 S500
Factory Phone

Hi all. Brand new here and looks like tons of great info. I just purchased a 2000 S500 and it has the phone installed in the center console. My question is what options are you aware of to remove the phone and install some type of Bluetooth using the existing voice pick ups and such.

Perhaps a different thread should be used but the car also has a RES and the monitors turn on with the remote but there is a DVD player in the rear center console that I can't get turned on (just started playing with it last night). Any suggestions on using this or where to get product info and then troubleshooting or instructions?

Thanks so much!

Id do a search on the phone, I have one too but just took it out to clear up some space. There are adapters that will seamlessly work with the existing COMAND unit.

As for the RES, I have no idea.... Sorry

S500 Lorinser,

Welcome to the forum. Check out the sticky at the top of the Audio & Electronics forum - the "How-To Guide." It will tell you more than you may have wanted to know about cell phones and Bluetooth, but it will answer your question.

I don't know if the RES was offered by MB; it may be 3rd party. Don't know anything about it.

Thanks! I found all the aftermarket replacement devices. The RES was dealer installed I'm told but I don;t know what was offered that year as options. The equipment appears to "fit" nicely (see pic)
but I don't have any information on it to know if it's simply a setting or button I need to press up front or if the DVD player isn't getting power. Anyhow, thanks again for the help!

Phone replacement for a Y2000

The model year 2000 is not very "flexible" to be equipped with modern communication devices. At that time MB only had the now old fashioned NOKIA's in the program and they worked with the fiber optic bus and the so called FSE/Nokia. I have attached a link from a company in Germany which is specialized in converting older MB communication to BT .... Unfortunately the text is all in German, but some is self-explaining. Maybe they also have an English web site. What they offer is pretty much all DIY proof, and works very well, so the users.
