2000 s500 - cd volume high on new song, then quickly lowers
while listening to a cd, everything is working fine until the track i'm listening to ends, and a new track begins. at this point the volume is super loud, then very quickly goes back to what it was set at previously.
i have a feeling this car has a ambient noise sensor which raises/lowers the volume of audio based on car speed, windows down, etc etc? it's almost like it's sensing the sounds from the speakers and auto lowering the sound of the music after it starts playing.
the system also has a really low amount of bass, even when raised on the head unit (not sure if this could be related).
anyone seen / heard of this before? if so, what's the fix?
any advice appreciated..
I think the systems use a combination of speed related volume increases along with ambient noise sampling (called AudioPilot) to adjust volume.
Does this happen when you're parked with the windows up? In that situation, the outside interference of noise should be at a minimum, requiring very little involvement of AudioPilot. If the problem persists, I think it's off to MB for a diagnosis.
Also - does it happen on all CD's?
As for the lack of bass. Here's what I was told "No Highs? No Lows? Must be BOSE" I've set mine to max increase on Bass and about 50% increase on Trebel. I would definitely like a better bass line (not a thumper, but the music seems to lack depth). Folks that have gone to the effort to add an additional subwoofer in search of more bass have found themselves in a death-grip with AudioPilot. It hears the bass thump and cranks the volume to compensate... Usual solution is to find the microphone for the AudioPilot and unplug it.
I have no idea where the microphone is on a W220.
Hope this helps in some small way.

i actually noticed the volume rise in the middle of a song when the bass line went away.. so i'm thinking it has to be related to sensing the bass in the car.

thank you!!
