The S500 pulls nice for being a 2 ton luxury cruising sedan. If your looking for performance though, Id feel more comfortable pushing an S55 or S65 on a daily basis.

I think these cars are kind of silly for a weekend car.

The 500 is not fast, and does not handle or brake well.

If thats what you're looking for, might I suggest a Porsche 911

Funny you should suggest a P-car. I've looked at all 911's from 1985-2005 and until I got into a 996 turbo for $45K, I thought they were all slugs.....albeit a very good handling slug

Ill agree with you that the S500 is silly for a weekend car, or even a race car. Its a highway cruiser. But saying that it does not handle or brake well is just a lie. It doesn't have the fastest acceleration but its still quick. Compared to other cars, it has great handling and quick braking.

That said. It is NOT a race car. No, but it is a well engineered high speed cruiser with better than average handling and brakes.

the stock s500 brakes are pretty poor.

The handling is par for the course for a 4xxxlb luxury sedan, which is to say, wallowy.

Its a cruiser and its handling and brakes are examples of that cruiser preference.

That being said; for the cruiser/land yacht that it is...it sure can fool you about its size/weight on occasion!

To the OP, look at S55k's and maybe even the S600TT...?

I've already looked into a 2003 S600, that had light mods(chip, tune,lg intakes,lg intercooler)......but I ran away because of all the threads here about the suspension probs and computer glitches that may occur.

I cant afford the maint costs of a V12....24 plugs etc.....

At least your not afraid to admit you cannot afford the maintenance costs of a 600...

HOWEVER, what most people on the forum fail to read is that the 03-06 S600's, just like all other W220, were much more reliable. They dont have NEAR the issues as the 00-02 V12s, plus you pick up a TT. Look for an 05-06 S600, 55 or 65 if your dying for speed. And word for the wise, dont buy a car thats already been tuned unless you want a W220 that you know has been abused in its past.

I feel the s65 is a really uneeded in the sedan when you can get basically the same performance out of a 600 tt with a ecu mod. Buy yourself a big brake kit and save 25k over the price of the 65.
