Lowered the W220

Ok, So I attempted this install as DYI at my friends house via Adjustable Air Ride lowering method.

Step 1

What actually happened:

We got the fronts done and it was getting to dark to do the rears, I just took it to the shop the next day and put it on the lift and adjusted the rears.

The change is amazing and I'm very happy. I have to say the ride got a bit smoother somehow I have no idea if its a placebo but everything feels much smoother. Also does anyone have tips how to pull in and out of the gas stations/driveways other than raise Airmatic button?

well, you certainly got the pain in the *** aspect of a low sports car without the good handling.

either way, it doesn't look bad, although its a bit low for my taste.

Looks great! With the raise feature you can cheat your way against bottoming out and scraping the front too.

I still think I'm going to try the STAR method as I can get it done for cheap in Knoxville. If anybody in the knoxville area is interested just let me know.

Any advantage over doing the links instead of the STAR method or vice versa?

Gondon can you please tell me how that stock Link got so bent? I've removed so many of them and have never ever damaged them in any way.

Thanks.

Hey there.

Are you aware that the car lowers itsself at high speed below normal level?
How much space is left for suspension at this time ?
(well, this might the reason why such modifications are forbidden, where i'am coming from)

But if you drive always below 80 km/h to show your coolness, there is no problem to worry about..

Cheers, Frank

I used some Pliers wrench probably it distributed too much force on one point most likely.

Well its actually at 80mph and not 80km/h and my drop is 1.5", there are people running 2-2.5" drops. So I have nothing to worry about it.

I was worried about that also, as i tend to have a heavy foot at time. but so far i have never had a problem and i had my car slammed for a time. But raised it some because of the wear on the tires.

For clarification i have checked again:
With ABC the car starts lowering from 60 km/h.
With Airmatic it starts lowering from 120 km/h and normalizes at 70 km/h (in the US. from 110 km/h / 60km/h)

And most important: The car lowers up to 15mm.
(Welcome to the metric system)

Cheers, Frank
