Question before I buy '02 S500 Im taking it to Mercedes for a diagnostic test:

Im looking to purchase a '02 S500 and the seller has agreed to let me take the vehicle to a Mercedes dealership to get a full diagnostic test. My only question is if the dealer says everything is fine but something (like transmission) goes wrong with it within say 30days will the dealership cover it. Does the dealership guarantee their test and if so for how long?

THANKS!!!

i honestly dont think the dealership is going to be responsible for something like that i mean that car could run forever or it could breakdown every month ... an inspection will tell you what current issues you have and maybe somethings you can possibly do now to avoid future problems but it wont guarantee anything. i work in the service department at a toyota dealership and i dont think iv done a quality vehicle inspection and guaranteed the customer it wont break. hopefully this helps a little bit

If the dealership is not selling the car, then don't count on them guaranteeing anything from their test. It's just a test, that's it. Of course, you should feel more comfortable having a MB dealer do the diag test though

you are joking right? What dealership in the world would charge $200 for an inspection and pay for any multi-thousand dollar repair that was needed afterwards? None.

What you need is a warranty if you are concerned about breakdowns. They cost $2000-3000 for a Mercedes, for 5 years and 70k additional miles. The one most often recommended here is the Chrysler warranty at factoryplans.com

The car must have under 80k miles to be eligible for the warranty

EDIT..Avoid it if it has an existing transmission issue!
