Problems after Jump Start

So, the car was sitting for a few days, had to jump start it. Now I have two errors:

1. Pre Save (not pre-safe) Failure, see manual, nothing in manual
2. SRS not functional, visit MB

Plus:
3. Navigation is stuck, shows off-road, map stuck at HOME position
4. Rear Sun shade does not work
5. Dynamic seat does not work

Any guidance is greatly appreciated?

Your owner's manual advises against jump starting a W220 - the reason is because of the kinds of failures you are having (some could be permanent damage, requiring replacement).

However, try this: Disconnect your battery; leave it disconnected for about 30 minutes. Then reconnect, and see if any problems went away, or go away after starting and running for a time.

Also see https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ml#post3682080 for resets you may need after disconnecting the battery.

Thanks for your reply Skylaw. The owner manual has a procedure for jump starting which I followed and did not see anything about not jump starting a W220. Where do you see that in the manual?

Thanks.

I wonder if those portable battery packs with the jumper cables are better than jump starting using 2 cars?? Seems it would give just enough juice without being excessive.

The jump start cables from Michellin ($35-$45) seems to be best. It has a regulator unit that prevents surges and it doesn't matter which cable is connected to what port on each battery, the regulator figures it out. All cables are blue, no red/black at each end.

Hmmmm - I have to eat my words somewhat. My '00 S500 owner's manual had a specific warning against it. My '05 does indeed contain a jump start procedure with many cautions, but advises that it can be done.

tusabes,

You can download an electronic version of the MY'00 owner's manual at http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/servPrtsOwnersManuals/ - and amazingly, on page 351, there are the jump starting cautions and instructions.

I say amazingly because I clearly recall that my print version for MY'00 clearly stated not to jump start the car because of risk of damage to electronic components. There were no jump starting instructions, other than "Don't do it."

I do not know why the print version differs from the electronic version, or when any revision to the manual may have occurred - but it does differ - and you have confirmed my recall (I no longer have that car or its printed manual).

You can also check the jump starting instructions in later models - the ones for the '05 are a bit more extensive than for '00 (among other things, instructing to be sure the two cars do not touch, and turning off all electrical consumers - absent from the '00 instructions, but good precautions). Manuals for '01 and '02 S-Class are not available on the site, but '00 and '03 and later are all there.

Dealer has advised that Gateway Control Module on my car is fried. They are replacing it under warranty, $600 item.

Extended warranty is a good thing.

It is possible that the gateway was the original problem. But I am glad it is fixed and all is well.

I also learned my lesson, if you need a jump start, call MB Roadside Assistance , they will come to you at no charge, regardless of age, under warranty/out of warranty and get you going.
