do we have a "highest mileage w220 thread"?

MB engines are generally very long lasting, much more so than other makes. Mine has 189k still going strong on the original engine. Tranny was recently replaced with a used one from another MB forum member

With these cars, I think it is even more important to see what kind of work it has had done on it recently. You may get a deal on some cars and then have to put in for example 3 new struts, etc... and then did you get a deal????
.
many people wait till the last seconds to bid on a car on ebay, so dont give up hope that you might get a bit more by the end.

As others have noted, cars with much less mileage are selling for not much more money, and it would be very hard to get something like $12-14k for a car with your miles as a private party sale, regardless of how well maintained it may be. Most buyers looking for good condition used MBs expect they will be properly maintained.

There are those of us who are OK with cars needing a little love/work in exchange for a greatly discounted price (such as 5-6k), but the general used MB buyer expects a car with no issues if they are paying $10k+

I have been told by a few people, one in particular at the dealership that the local leather shop could make the seat look good as new. The other seats are in very good shape.
Well there is happiness and then there is still reality. And the reality of the matter is that no matter what you have done to a car recently, it only helps you get closer to te market value of the car if that.

9 year old S classes just aren't bringing much more than 10 to 11K at the retail level these days..That's the reality. Nobody is ever happy to see their crown jewel worth a lot less than anticipated but thats just how it is with car sales.. Like I said before I wasn't very happy to see the 2004 models barely getting calls at 13 to 15K but that's just how it is in the market.

There are many many of these cars being sold wholesale around the country because they are very very hard to sell on the open market. When so many are being sold at auction prices, that almost becomes your new competition for resale. No one in their right mind should be paying above or near book for these cars when they are becoming a dime a dozen regardless to what work has been done on them. That's the sad truth.

Until last year my father-in-law had a late 80s BMW 3 Series convertible which had over 450,000 miles on it. Did all the maintenance himself on it. Last year he upgraded to a 1991 that had 90,000 on it! Like new apparently

Around 6 months ago or so someone posted an ebay link to a W220 that had around 350,000 miles. The driver's seat was completely f'ed up!
