OK here's the question what car would you choose between the S55 AMG all factory options or S500 customized anyway you want.

Well, depends if you want performance or appearance. A fully loaded S500 (or even a full loaded S430) is a great car; very comfortable with tons of toys to play with. The performance isn't that bad either. And with the extra money you save by not buying a S55, you can get new rims, maybe a body kit.. stuff to customize it even more.

IMO the S55 (and CL55) isn't worth the premium. Aesthetically, there is a small difference between the 55's and cars with the sports package. Any other minor difference can be made by going for aftermarket parts.

However, if you like to drive fast, then go for the S55. However, the car is huge (4200lbs+) so the experience is pretty strange.

Here is a way to look at this:

An S500 with all the options that a S55 comes with will be approx $4,000 less in price as compared to S55. If you wanted the added options that the S55 comes with standard on your S500 then the S55 may be the best choice depending on what you are looking for as it is the best deal.

Furthermore, the added power that the AMG engine produces is a lot of fun and makes for a totally different vehicle.

As a side note to Jl88.. The difference between a CL500 optioned like a CL55, the price difference is only $5,000, which in my opinion makes the CL55 a better buy (if you can get it at MSRP).

hi amgboy,
i too thought about an s500 vs the s55. when you option the s500 out it comes very close to the s55 in price. one thing to remember is that the s55 has some of the optional items on the s500 as standard equipment. another thing to keep in mind is there is no replacement for displacement!!! last point...which model would still keep your interest 3 years from now???
good luck in your decision.
jeff
ps. hey guys i traded my 2000 ml 430 for a 2002 ml 500. do you think i took that help the economy stuff too seriously:p !!!
