It's hard to launch a Diablo. They're 4WD, so no tire slip. You either bog them out of the hole (which is what he did), or slip the hell out of the clutch (at $4K a pop, that adds up), or drop the clutch at 5500 RPM (which either launches them hard, or grenades your transmission). I've seen a lot of vids of Diablos running low 13s / high 12s

Take the M5 great machine but ask the guys @ bmwm5 how many have managed to pull a sub 5.0 for their launch even though it is possible. Take the Dinan M5 test Motortrend (or one of the other mags did) the best they did with Steve Dinans own machine was a 5.0 vs Steves 4.6, take into account that the Motortrend guys have had a lot more experience taking a variety of cars to the strip and thus have a lot of experience in launching a car properly.

Yep, what he said. I took my M5 to the strip once, but had terrible problems getting it off the line. The Benz isn't a piece of cake either, but it is straightforward once you get the technique down.
Here's another video from the track last week. My opponent was a friend in a supercharged C5, a car which on street tires is pretty traction-challenged. As you'll see, I won this race at the light; our ETs were almost identical.

(I have a feeling when treynor is done modifying his 600, he will set a precedent renn and the others will have to follow)

Correct. And in another 48 hours, it's going to be a RENNtech S600 ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Those of you with S600/Cl600s on order or in the garage should give RENNtech a call. They're getting some serious power out of these V12s with just filters & ECU. Bob Brady FAXed me the dyno sheet they have on a CL600 they just finished, and the damn thing makes >450 RWHP SAE from 3800 to 5500 RPM, with a peak of 484 RWHP and 650 RWTQ (!!). That's unbelieveable, and the area under the HP curve is huge.

Quick question Treynor.....
Why did you get rid of your M5 and what did you think of it? I just recently picked up an 03' M5 and I love it so far. Also how does the 600 do when it comes to curves and high speeds and things of that nature does it just lean alot or hold its own?
Although I am not a huge fan of ultimate luxury cars that certainly is impressive! Good luck with your car in the future!

> Why did you get rid of your M5 and what did you think of it?
Loved the car when it was running well. Mine was an '00 and had some reliability issues, and I eventually sold it and bought a Lexus SUV to do road trips & stuff.
Compared to the S600 it was more of a sports sedan and less of a bahn-burner. Rougher ride, much smaller, better handling, better brakes, considerably slower. Great car, though!
> What exactly is the curve and stuff and how much more power
> does the RENNtech ecu's give?
It makes about 20% more power in the midrange and 5-10% more power on the top end.
> Where are they (Renn) doing this mod for you? How long will
> your car be in the shop?
My car's parked in the garage outside my office
I pulled the ECU yesterday afternoon and FEDEX'd it to them in Florida; it'll be coming back tomorrow along with new air filters, and I'll reinstall it (takes about 10 minutes). That's it -- no other downtime, no shop, nothing. The joy of turbo vehicles!
The guy you want to talk to is Bob Brady @ 561-845-7888.

MBWorld Fanatic!
You must post your new times once you get the ECU installed. I have been in touch with Renntech myself, once my beast comes in June it should have a few extra oats in the feedbag.

I have installed the RENNtech upgrade, and I am quite impressed (which is difficult to achieve). The car has considerably more power from 3300 RPM up to redline, throttle response is much better, etc. At the 'strip tonight, I picked up a consistent 0.4 seconds and 3 MPH, with a best run of the evening of 11.99 @ 117.0 !!. Not bad for a 4600 lb car ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Videos etc. to follow tomorrow.

Tip...
Try unplugging the ABC pump. This should aid weight transfer and allow for a much better 60' time... and a 1/10th off your 60' time is worth at least twice that over the course of the run.
I'm thinking about some Nitto drag radials for mine :-)

Interesting, I'll try pulling the ABC fuse next time. Good thought!
Nitto doesn't appear to make 265-18 DRs yet, but BFG is apparently releasing some shortly. Do you know of any 17" rear wheels which fit the 600 series?

Nitto has a 275/40-R17 drag radial and discounttiredirect.com has about 2 dozen wheels they claim fit the CL600 in 17", so check them for S-Class wheels.
Without the AMG brakes, I doubt there's any trouble clearing 17s, since they 500s come with 17s from the factory anyway.
As for the ABC, just pull the connector, its a black two-wire connector on a pump (on the accessory belt) on the driver's side of the engine. I pulled mine tonight to see what the ride was like (not a heck of a lot different, but noticeable).
