2002 E55K RENNtech HP

At last someone else is posting dragstrip times! Hope to see time slips soon. Is S600 turbocharged? Excellent times for such a large vehicle!

Correct, this was in a bone-stock 2003 S600 with 1200 miles on the clock. All the '03 S and CL600s are twin-turbo'd, essentially detuned versions of the Maybach engine.
James -- what do you think of RENNtech's work? They have an ECU upgrade for the S600 which supposedly picks up a few ponies (about 30), makes throttle response more sporty, and so on. I'm highly tempted to get it; would appreciate any input you have on the company and their products...
Also, you take your E55 to the track? What kind of times do you run?

Here's one of the videos, of my second run of the day.

There's a great one I'll get later of me racing (and beating) a supercharged C5 Corvette

Treynor, great video but you need to work on your reaction time heh! As far as RENNtech you can believe what they say. No BS but results from what I have seen. My best run with my E55K RENNtech was 12.105 @ 118.32 MPH. Rule of thumb for many cars is 10 HP increase equals 1 MPH and .1 sec. ET improvement. May not quite be as much for such a heavy car. Recently went to RENNtech with My401 and his C32 for ECU and pulley upgrade. Witnessed before and after dyno, work was done quickly with no problems, car has now hit 12.995 ET. Welcome to the M-B 12 second car club! Now if some HPS and Kleemann owners will post some timeslips I will be impressed. By the way I'm sure the car that beat you in the video was on slicks with open headers and probably topped out around 108 MPH due to gearing, right!

2004 S 600
I'm getting Renntech upgrade for my Sept delivery 2004 S600. Brings engine back to Maybach spec 550hp and 664 ftlb of torque.
We'll see how I do at dragstrip...can't wait.......great runs that day dude!

James, thanks for the info. This was my first time at the track with the Benz, so RT wasn't my primary concern. I did start sorting that out later in the day -- there's enough latency in the Benz driveline that I have to get on the gas after the *second* yellow. And yes, that was a test & tune day, and the car I was running was a supercharged V8 on slicks running high 11s. There's a grudge night coming up next weekend which should have some more normal competition, and I'm sure there will be good videos from that ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
12.1 @ 118 is smoking - what 60' do you get, and how do you get it? I was seeing consistent 1.97 60' with no wheelspin, but that was on the mediocre Potenza RE050 stock rears.
As for my launches, just a brief spin to clean off the tires, and launched by releasing the brake and rolling into the gas. Brake torquing or even hammering the gas will light up both rear tires and incur the wrath of the traction control gods.

Another video, my first run of the day:

(FWIW, there was a Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 at the track as well. It ran a 12.8 @ 119. I would have -loved- to line up with that car and beaten it

My 60 ft. times are generally 1,925 to 1.970 with a best of 1.889. I'm running on Bridgestone S-03's (285/30-19 rear) at 28 PSI. Similar launch technique, remove foot from brake at second to last yellow light and begin easing down on throttle at last yellow. Tricky, sometimes redlight when traction is really good. My car shifts 1-2 at 5900 rpm and holds second to 6500. I can sometimes feel serious wheelspin during first to second shift, how about you?

S03 pole positions would definitely help! I used to have those on my old M5, and they were terrific tires, although they wore quickly. My S600 has the stock 265/40-18 Potenza RE050s, and they're definitely sub-par. A bit more traction may put me into the low-mid 1.9s, which would be just about right.
And no wheelspin on shifts - the ECU retards power during the shifts. Perhaps the RENNtech upgrade will fix that too...
Great to hear there's another dragstrip junkie in the crowd!

Here's a pic from the S600 vs supercharged vette race -- I'm still waiting for the video to be posted. I won the race at the light; our ETs were within 3 100ths of a second, and the vette trapped at 121 MPH to my 114

Amazing! Im extremely impressed with those times. As far as tires go if you want sticky and decent quality I recomend the Falken Azenzis highly. If you autocross etc. you've probably heard the name mentioned. They are and extremely soft and grippy compound and the best part is there very light on the walley making it ok to abuse them.

Treynor, I'm pleasantly amazed you take your car to the track, keep on going.
Congratulations for your times, those are amazing times, you should be able to squeeze better times with the right weather in your stock form, I run 1.98 60' times, but my car is lighter, also on street tires. If you could manage not to spin you could gain significant time, do you power brake?
I ask because every time I power brake (even 900 rpm) I have wheel spin and I run 13.4s, if I just floor it I don't spin and I run 13.1s or 13.2s (with just K&N air filter as a mod)
Again, great times for such a large car! Go kick some vette and Rustang Cobra butt!

Interesting, my experience is the same as yours. I don't power brake, I just roll into the throttle. The one time I tried hitting the throttle harder (still not power braking) I spun and ran a 13.0. Every other time I had a little bit of wheel chirp in 1st gear, but no spinning, and ran 12.45 - 12.52.
My only modification this week is to swap the rear tires for 275/40 Potenza S-02s, which are significantly stickier than the OEM RE050s. I'm headed back to the dragstrip this weekend, so we'll see if they make a difference.
Did you find the K&N air filter made a difference for your car?

K&N Air filters did make a difference of almost a tenth of a second on the quarter mile (constant), but my engine is naturally aspirated, I've heard air filters don't make a difference on a forced induction engine.
Let us know about those tires.
