What about that general style of wheel? I thought this (style) was a stock wheel that came on later model w220's

I believe the style without the rivets was standard on the S55/E55/Sl55, etc. But that was an 18" wheel

I'm not sure what exactly your asking... because both WITH and WITHOUT rivets to my understanding are both AMG wheels!

My 2005 s55 amg came with the non-rivet 5 spoke split amg wheels.
My friend's 2006 cl65 on the other hand came with the 5 spoke amg wheels WITH rivets.

Not sure if that helped you at all, but thats what i know

Ok, so that style wheel is strictly an AMG wheel and NOT a stock Mercedes wheel that came on some late model w220's. I understand now. I thought it was just a stock wheel, and the AMG's were just bigger. I've been trying to find a set. One guy had a set w/ tires on Craigslist for $500 bux!! But they sold fast!

As you know AMG is the tuner company for Mercedes. AMG wheels can be stock on cars with the sport package, and/or AMG tuned cars. Both are available through the Mercedes dealer, as "stock" with the respective option packages. You can also have the Mercedes dealer install a set of AMG wheels after you buy the car, for a lot more money.

My understanding is that most "authentic" AMG wheels do not have the rivets. That is the design feature the replica companies add to the wheel to avoid lawsuits. I'm not saying ALL "authentic" AMG wheels, just MOST. I am skeptical of any AMG wheels with rivets. It screams replica. However, some of the "AMG style" wheels (as many replica websites call them) look better with the rivets, IMO.

Was you friend the first owner of the car? I see many pre-owned car lots adding the replica wheels to the cars they offer for sale.


Keep in mind there is a quality difference which is reflected in the price.

The 65 series S, CL, and SL come with riveted double 5 spoke 19" wheels in the design you've posted. However, they have a gun metal finish on the spokes.

The SL55 performance package has the exact wheel in your post, including rivets, with the silver finish.

The aftermarket wheel replica companies are available with or without rivets.

authentic AMG wheels will have actual bolts that hold together a 2 or 3 piece wheel rather than "rivets" on the replicas to give the appearance of a multi-piece wheel.

IMO....fake splits look terrible and are easier to spot as a replica. if i were to get a replica wheel, i would get a cast 1pc wheel since it would look closer to the authentic.

I have these 18" AMG 030 Performance Package Multi-Piece Twin-Spoke Light Alloy Wheels which I might sell for the right price..

They came off my 2006 SLK55 AMG with 030 18x7.5 Front, 18x8.5 Rear.

Those are AMG wheels that came in silver on the SL55 w/030 package. The SL65 gets the same wheel, except the spokes are a dark gray.

It is a great wheel.... but I am biased!
