2003 S-500 4matic blk/blk
Headlamp switch

I got a 2003 S-500 4matic recently and I have noticed that my headlamp switch doesn't affect the headlamps at all.

It doesn't make any difference whether I switch it off, auto, low beam or parking mode.

The headlamps turn automatically on at night and off in the day.

Is that a normal behavior?

The dashboard doesn't report any problem.

That is not normal behavior. For some reason your lights seem stuck in the "Auto" function.

I have just showed this to a bmw mechanic that I know and he has explained me why. He turned the engine off (with contact on) and then this switch started working.
He said that this is normal and it is used in a situation when you need to highlight something in front of the car when it is parked.

EDIT: Since I live in Canada, could it be possible that the headlights were tampered to comply with the local regulations?
