could i get an s430 for under $36,000???

Not unless you find one at an auction. Check Starmark Certified Pre-Owned on Mbusa.com and check current inventory. I would expect that the prices shown on there are perhaps 5% higher than I would expect to actually pay, because no dealer wants to lowball himself on a sale before anyone sees the car.
You'll see that the cheapest S430 is about $40K, and it has over 80,000 miles. If you're wanting a big Mercedes, I would suggest you look at the last generation S320 or S420. You would likely find some of those in your price range. Just be aware that you'll be paying $700-800 a month on a 5 year old vehicle. That's not a bad thing if that is what you want, just make sure it's what you want.

I grabbed my 2000 S430 w/ heated leather seats and phone with only 27k miles on it for 45k
Check ebay. Theres a couple of dealers in Texas that has really good prices on used S430's with decent mileage. They will ship the car to you too.
My friend got the car at the Mercedes Leasing Corp auction in PA. I just gave him the stats I was looking for and he went and found one. Unfortunately, he didn't get on w/ Xenon, but for 45k, it is still a steal. PLus the interior is super clean and paint was garage kept. Lucky me. So see if you know any wholeseller friends or aquaintences.
I'm never buying new ever again. Not when I can buy used for so cheap! LOL. Now I just need to find my wife her Carerra 4
