Passenger side ashtray will not close
Greetings,
I accidently bumped the rear right passenger side ashtray console on my 2001 S430 (W220) and now the console will not stay close when I push it back; no more the usual "click" sound. The dealer claims that the spring is lose and wants $150 to fix it!! Is there a way to remove the ashtray console and put back the “lose spring”? I look around the ashtray area and can’t find any type of screw or “entry point” to remove the console.
I tried the search function and most the threads are regarding removing the front ashtray console for stereo/GPS purpose. If the question has been asked, please direct me to the thread. Thanks a bunch!!

I honestly don't know what to do but a good idea is to look through the Mercedes-Benz Electronic Parts Catalog (link can be found under the "W220 S-CLASS OWNERS START HERE STICKY" under manual) to find how that part is assembled and you can start from there to figure out how to fix it. You have to register if not already and must provide a credit card number to confirm that you are an adult.
Next time you need something, look through the usual "W220 S-CLASS OWNERS START HERE!!" sticky...as it quite literally says to start there. Search comes second and then starting a thread goes third if applicable.
