Your dealer should also consider trying re-loading your firmware before replacing the system.
Going to a good 3rd party setup, such as a Kenwood Excelon or Pioneer nav system/DVD/CD player/iPod/phone system would cost half the dealer's quote.
Also, your dealer should be able to tell you which specific component is bad. You could likely purchase it and replace it yourself for a LOT less. See the W220 S-Class Owners Start Here sticky at the top of this forum for more.
