2003 S500 Comments?
Hi all. Haven't been here since I sold my SL ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Local Mercedes dealer has a one owner s500 with most options and sport, less than 29,000 miles. All service was done at the same dealer who I have dealt with for years. They are offering a 3 year/36K diamond warranty for $30,000. Car is in excellent shape, needs tires and a nav disk update.
Thoughts would be appreciated. The mileage is great but, even with the warrenty, am worried about the age. My SL was a 2001 and was in the shop more than on the road.

They must take you for a sucker. You can get a clean S55 S600 for that price.

I already have a new Corvette and have no use for an AMG. Blue book is almost $31,000 on the S500 and they have added a $3000 warranty on top of that. Maybe cars aren't worth as much in Europe?

I'd be careful going with a 2003 model year W220, especially one that has been sitting around for the majority of its life (considering the mileage). It may have warranty, but it will still be a chore having to drive back and forth to the dealer.

$30k for a 2003 s500 is nuts.
Look at craigslist, they are going for half that or less. Low mileage like that does NOT mean a good car...in fact it could mean more problems that come with a rarely driven car.
The best thing you can do for a car is drive it daily.

Low miles and warranty are nice. But, with 07 S550's going for low $40s, it isn't that great of a deal. Even with the low miles, that car should be closer to $20 -22.
But, it sure is a lot of car for the money!

Way too much! I paid $14k for my one owner, dealer maintained down to the dot, 2001 S500. Had 87k miles and was completely perfect inside and out. Passed the MB dealer inspection as well with flying colors.
It's been a wonderful car, only needing suspension work (I replaced an airspring, and it's needing new thrust arms). Overall I've been very happy with it.

I agree that the price is way to high, even at low mileage. To compare model years of the W220, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...-look-out.html and http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220...w220-05-a.html
For that money you would be much better off with an '05 or an '06 - and you can get them for that. In my area, a standard '05 S500 would run just over $26K, and the 4Matic just over $28K, suggested retail price.

Thanks everyone for the responses. The price situation is surprising, and I appreciate the comments! I had gone to cars.com to checkout prices and, according to them, the dealer was spot on for Blue Book retail. I will say that car, and home, prices are not depressed very much here as we have lots of government funded jobs and projects, but you can't argue with what you folks are seeing.
Also agree that sometimes mileage doesn't reflect the true status of the vehicle. They did have to replace the front shocks because the seals gave out from sitting.
Bummer, looks like a pass on this one. Thanks again for the comments.
