Help - Screwed up Comand - Audio

I have a s600 2004. The 6-Cd changer in the trunk wasn't loading so I took it out and fiddled with it and then re-installed. In removing, I disconnected all the wires to the change and the Nav unit. When I reinstalled, I got an error "sound not available" followed by "system not available." I've searched the subject and tried disconnecting the battery, system reset and used the mute, 1, 2, all with no success. It seems that nothing is wrong -- it's just not "activated." I just bought the car and it didn't come with any dvd.

I'm at a loss.

This is a shot in the dark, but it seems to me that you may have switched the fiber optic leads (orange leads) between the nav unit and the CDC. Can you recall exactly which fiber optic leads you disconnected, and are you certain you got the proper leads reconnected?

The physical sequence of the equipment in the fiber optic loop can have consequences.

Also, are you certain you also re-connected the copper wires (power, ground, and wake-up) to the equipment? Those three wires (a set for each piece of equipment on the loop) should all terminate in a single connector for each piece of equipment.

There is a diagram of the equipment on the loop at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit..._bulletins.htm - it may help a bit, if you go back into the trunk and trace the fiber optic leads. You cannot see the connections at the audio gateway or head unit (and therefore you likely didn't disturb them) - but see if the leads to the electronics in the trunk connect in the sequence shown in the '04 S-Class diagram, starting with the voice control unit (system).

Thank you. Yes, it's possible that I swapped the fibre optic leads. I had assumed that they would be different plugs that wouldn't allow that but realized that wasn't true. I'll go swap and see what happens - also I try the sequencing of the plug in.

A big help.

I found the problem. When I was messing with the changer, I pulled out a connector ( one of those flat multi connectors you see in computers) and that caused the changer to malfunction so the fibre optic ring was not complete.

Thank you for the update. I could not tell for sure which one, but it just "felt" like a connection problem.
