I can see myself getting shunned for saying this but I'm thinking of going for a 2000-2001 BMW E38 7-series instead. They have the safety features, creature comforts, looks, and driving dynamics at a very good price right now. Plus, these production years were the last for this body style so most of the kinks have been worked out and the V8 engines in those things is very efficient for the amount of power it gives. It does not have the presence the S-class has; that is somethings BMW will NEVER take away from Mercedes. But the 7-series is the best I can attain for right now. Years later, I will upgrade to an S-class.

an old 7 series? yuck. those engines eat themselves. there are no cylinder liners just a coating that wears off
