ive had my 2000 s500 for about 2 months now. and the slot in the dash were the navigation cd goes. it doesnt play cd's i just figured that thats the way it is supposed to be but thats pretty stupid. is anyones navigation able to play regular music cd's?

 

I use the same navigation map software in my S-Class, but with the TravelPilot, also made by Blaupunkt. The difference is that the TravelPilot uses a completely digital receiver instead of the analog receiver MB selected for the COMAND. The digital receiver interfaces to the CD such that it can also play audio but unfortunately this is not possible with the analog receiver. Just use a fiberoptic changer.

 

As I understood S class has Nav 2.5 which can not play CDs. The rest of MB has Nav 2.0 which can play. It's stupid, isn't iit? New Nav can play DVD, but will be available from '04.

 

i was in an e class (it looked like the same navigation ) and it was able to play regular cds

 

E class has version 2.0, it looks similar to 2.5

i tried to play a cd once there on the S, didnt work
but if am not mistaken, i think i was able to in a CLK
perhaps thats what tmushy and Dema meant .. i dunno ill check it again later

FYI, in the 04 or newer S classe the Nav. DVD does not play a consumer DVD. The actual head unit does, however the USA command only lists the chapters no picture and no code to activate any video.

 

Our NAV's will NOT play music CDs--ONLY the NAV CD!
