Air Pump Problem? Ignition Switch (EIS) problem?

S500 that I am looking to buy has engine management light on.
MB main dealer plugged the car in and tells me that the light is caused by the air pump that needs replacing.
The car is nearly 7 years old with 50,000 miles.
This sounds odd to me.
Any ideas?
MB quoted me £800 to supply and fit a new one.
Anyone had a similar issue?

The 2 "keys" do not start the car.
The keyless "key" works fine
The car recently had a flat battery.
MB main dealer says it needs a new EIS ignition switch at £600 fitted.
Anyone had a similar issue?

Have now sorted out the air pump problem. Despite the MB main dealer diagnosing air pump failure and therefore a £830 repair, I connected the pump to a 12 Volt supply, and hey presto, it ran fine. Checked the fuse, that was fine. Then checked the relay box to find that someone had swapped the diesel relay with the air pump relay. Now all is fine. Total cost £0.00, saving £830! The same dealer spent 4 hours finding a tracker unit and seems to have pulled the dash out (it was hanging out when I saw the car for the first time) and no doubt other bits too. The main dealer is in a town famous for concrete cows, in case anyone has experience of them.

The EIS problem is not resolved.
The keyless go card works fine, although sometimes when I press the button in the gear selector, it says the card is not recognised. But when I press the button again, it starts and drives fine.
First thing in the morning, one of the "normal" keys starts the car but I cannot get the car out of Park. When I turn the car off, the key will no longer turn. I have tried leaving the key in the EIS for up to 10 minutes, but nothing happens.
The other key seems to be dead.
I wonder whether the main dealer has done something to the EIS connections...
Any pointers would be good.
I am located in Buckingham / Bicester area.
Thanks
Regards
Frank
