Does my key need re-programming?

I've got Keyless Go on my '04 600 and am wondering if the key needs programming. Was fine this morning but going to lunch it seems to be acting up...
When I grab the door handle the rear view mirror indicator lights seem to flash indicated it knows I'm trying to get in but the door won't open. If I manually open it with the keyfob the door opens no problems. I then get the red 'Door Open' warning on the information display as I get in and cannot start the car using the keyless start/stop on the gearshift. The 'Key Still in Vehicle' warning flashes between that and the default (in my car odometer) on the instrument display.
I can lock the car by pressing the Keyless Go button on the outside. Between that and the rear view lights flashing when I grab the handle I don't think it's a driver's door handle problem.
Any insights from anyone would be gratefully accepted.
Thanks
Fraser

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Start by
changing the key battery. If not that and it is very cold out you may have some part or circuit iced up.
Your key won't lose its programming so at least you can put away that worry.
Have you tried entry from the pass door side?

The battery in the key was only changed about six months ago so I'm not sure it was that, and I recall getting some warning on the dash when it got low which I'm not getting at the moment.
It has been reasonably cold here (in the teens overnight, high 20s/lows 30s today) but the car was parked outside in the sun from this morning, when it worked fine, until lunch, when it wasn't. I know these 220s sometimes fix themselves so I'll see if it is still acting up when I go home.
Thanks!
