Shock Dust Covers
Hello everyone...
I was removing my tires yesterday to thoroughly clean the wheels. The were completely covered in Brake Dust by the way. Took me almost 5 straight hours of scrubbing to get them clean. PITA
I noticed as the car was lifted at each wheel EVERY dust cover on each shocks is torn. They have not completely separated yet and it seems the car has to be lifted to notice it at all. But they have large splits and I can see the silver thing that makes up the shock.
Can I pay the dealer to replace just the dust covers on each shock? Should I do right away or wait until the shocks completely crater?
My car is an 02 and has only 40K miles. Recently the dealer did complete the reseal at the top of each front shock. I'm thinking the shocks are still good but these dust covers are an obvious concern. I think I read that once the dust covers get torn then the struts get dirt in there and will fail faster.
Your thoughts?

You can't get the dust covers separetly, only as a whole shock!!
There are 2 viable options, basically.........either let them like this, and when they fail, they fail, or you could get some "zip-tie"-Dust covers (rubber boots) that you can put on from the side. That only minimizes the dust that gets in.
Thank you Mercedes engineers for that. On the 216/221 they changed the design and allowed the dust covers to be changed separately.
Have a nice day

EDIT: Sorry, I mean this only for the ABC Suspension, if you have Airmatic, I THINK you could get those at the dealer for abound 20-30$ / corner.
