Oil Change
I prefer to follow what Mercedes recommends for oil change intervals. I guess it's up to the owner if they'd like to follow that advice.

It is far more important to use the proper oil, than to change at 5k miles. The recommended MB interval when using the proper oil is 10-13k miles

UNLESS you are a road racer, then I change it every season. Note: I would HIGHLY doubt ANYONE here is racing their W220

The last sample I sent them said I could run for 15k between changes and still have plenty of lubrication life left in the oil. My truck on theother hand can only run 6k per change
Worth a look, plus when I trade in my cars I can hand over a lube test that shows my engine is healthy which is a great way to get top dollar on your trade.
as noted above, if you are racing, you want to change more frequently.
also, if your aftermarket warranty contract has more stringent requirements (some require every 4 months/4000 miles regardless of factory recommenation) you MUST follow it to avoid denied warranty claims
According to the Mercedes Service Manual and Mercedes WIS, services "A" and "B" are always 13,000 miles apart. So oil should be changed either once a year or every 13,000 miles. 0w40 full synthetic of course.

I've followed that on my 2006 S500 with no problem. I'm interested on why this changed from 10K to 13K after 2005 though.
I did a bit of research a little while ago on this exact same item. My MY02S500 was manufactured during MB's 229.3 spec. Later (I think around 2005) MB issued a new oil spec, 229.5. When I read the specification and my memory may be jagged on the exact mileage, the 229.3 was rated at 13kkm with a regular paper filter (mb). Using the 229.5 + the special wool filter (again mb) could extend the exchange limit to 20kkm. I'm using Castrol 5w-40 which is rated to 229.3 at the FSE calculated change requirements. This was confirmed acceptable by the local MB dealer parts manager.
Maybe Eric could expand on this for us? especially if I've been lied to.
