Bad smell from the A/c

Hey guys every day when i turn on my a/c for the first time of the day i get a bad smell for like 5 seconds and its gone, if i shut it off and turn it on after an hour or two no smell .. the smell only comes if i don't turn it on for umm i would say a day its really weird.. i still get cold air thro all vents. one thing tho and im not sure if its a problem but i get more air coming from the center than on the sides?

many many cars have the "old socks" smell when you first turn on the AC.

Completely normal. Spray large amounts of Ozium BG Frigi, Lysol or AircoFresh into the intakes near the bottom of the windshield

AircoFresh

you have mildew/mold in your system, you need to kill it.
its very common to all makes of cars, when moisture gets trapped somewhere in the system. Your other cars dont have trapped moisture so thats why they dont have it.

also make sure your drains are clear! clogged drains trap standing water.

If spraying into the vents didnt kill it, let me know and Ill go take a look at my car....

Anyway here is a BMW forum explaining the procedure, maybe this will help
http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/12566722

Also this product will help dry out your system and also seal any leaks, highly recommended
http://www.amazon.com/Cliplight-Manu.../dp/B0002NYBC8

Here is a review of various sealants that actually work (better than the autozone stuff)
http://www.aircondition.com/knowledg...akSealers.html

and here is a cheap source for OEM MB AC parts

Open the engine hood and look for a large grated outing directly in front of the passenger seat. This is where the 2 cabin air filters gather the outside air. Refer to the attached pictures.

I have had great success by starting the engine (to keep the AC compressor running), set all interior fans on high, ensure the interior recirc is off, close the windows and doors, and spray an entire small can of Ozium (small can only!) into the duct. The Ozium will permeate the interior completely, but the Ozium smell will dissipate after a day or two, leaving a fresher scent. Repeat as necessary.

Cheers,
Jeff

Depending on the size of the cabin you want to freshen up, either the 0.8oz or the 1.0oz. The 3.5oz is simply too much for one application. Also, try and let the Ozium sit in the car's interior overnight, without opening doors or windows.
Cheers,
Jeff

Theoretically, Lysol will disinfect just about anything. However, Lysol's odor remains long after the job is complete and the oils in Lysol cling to everything. Using Lysol in this application is the same as hanging 20+ lil' evergreen tree deodorizers from your rear view mirror - does little but smells horrible. Ozium is somewhat unique in that it not only neutralizes odors (including *minor* cigarette odor), but it's native odor dimishes rapidly over time. IMHO
Cheers,
Jeff

Did you change the charcoal filters just above the passengers feet? They like to soak up moisture in humid climates and then grow mold. If you live anywhere with high humidity you should really change all 4 cabin filters at the same time.

you have both charcoal and cabin filters, they are different.
look at your service Bill if you werent charged for both charcoal and cabin filters they were not changed. Or you can call up your service dept.

Most MB that are not dealer maintained have not had all the filters changed in years
