W220 Cluster, etc problem
Two days ago I lost the "backlight" of my instrument cluster ( It went black but everything was working ok ), yesterday I lost the warning lights, speedometer ( everything in the instrument panel ), turning sign, cruise, dynamic seats and the steeringwheel buttons.
Today I removed the instrument panel, I have the following voltages in the instrument panel plug when the engine is running:
Pin 1 0V
Pin 2 13,16V
Pin 3 2,327V
Pin 4 2,680V
Pin 5 0V
Pin 6 14,00V
Pin 7 not in use
Pin 8 4,33V
Pin 9 0,665 - 0,779V changes between
Pin 10 0V
Pin 11 0V
Pin 12 not in use
Pin 13 0,03V
Pin 14 0V
Pin 15 14,00V
Pin 16 not in use
Pin 17 not in use
Pin 18 not in use
The transistors looks ok, but I could not find +12V anywhere from the components on the instrument panel.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Well this same thing happened to my 2000 S500 a few years ago. The problem is the MOSFET's basically over load and melt of the circuit board. I tried to fix it myself but I am not an electrical engineer at all to say the least. Here is a link that explains it all. I ended up sending my cluster to the dude in Florida and had it repaired for about $750. That was of course just before MB announced the 10 year warranty on them! Hope it helps.
