Older S600?

I am looking to get an older s600. I really like the older look in them. Is there certain years to avoid with them? I know the upkeep is a lot, but i honestly wouldnt be driving the car more than 5,000 miles per year. what do you suggest between 96 to 01?

A Mercedes obviously!
A little S600 lesson...

The W220 forum is for vehicles from 2000-2006. The W220 S600 came in two guises:
-'01s and '02s had a NA V12 w/362bhp and 391lb/ft torque. They are notoriously unreliable because they're not only early W220s but the engine is renowned for very expensive problems such as oil leaks.
-'03-'06 when it came as a twin turbo V12 w/493bhp and 590lb/ft torque. The later you go the more reliable they are.

I don't know much about the W140 S600s, there's a dedicated forum for W140s so check it out, but if you want one of the W220s I'd not even consider one of the early NA V12s. Get yourself into the newest and lowest mileage vehicle you can afford. They'll be a bit more expensive initially but in the long run probably a lot cheaper.
