Gold Emblems

Im looking to debadge the s430 and replace the chrome star in the hood ornament and the chrome star in the back to gold, any ideas? I like the way other cars look with gold badging.

Gold Badges

When I bought my S500 from the dealer, I asked the dealership what the adjustment would be for Gold plating.

As I recall the salesman said it was around $400-$500. I told him that I thought $2,500 would be a better figure.

"Huh?" he said, "It doesn't cost more than $400."

"No," I told him, "you don't understand, I need to have you take off atleast $2,500 before I'd be seen with gold plates."

<grin>

i tend to agree even though i asked about it... I just never seen a W220 with gold plating, and whenever i see a car with gold plating it seems nicer.

Audi 80 Quattro (with a couple of modifications)
Please don't do it. I think gold badges look horrable, but that seems to be the way the market is going, so what do I know.

Gold emblems look decent on some cars, horrible on others. I have seen gold emblems and plates on a purplish W220 before but it also had a light leather interior and almost no tint so it did look very nice. However on a White W220 i say the same thing, but dark tint, and the gold just looked horrible. Our sales man said that the gold wears off after a while because they get an external shop to do the plating. Yes, real gold. I am still thinking that he's crazy.

Our Lexus has the gold emblems and so does the honda (shoot me).

They don't use real gold when they "plate" the emblems. The gold effect is the result of a chemical reaction between the chrome and an acid, sort of the same kind of reaction used to get "candy" paint.. This is the reason why the "gold" fades. Real gold doesn't fade.

i had the gold emblem on my old s500, but not the new one, but it suited very well with the old one, but with the new s-class, itll be ugly, funny, and disgraceful.

Don't care for the gold plating on these vehicles. When I see MB with gold emblems, makes me think of a person wearing a million chains around their neck. AKA, pimp. Seen on older cars, not on newer. Just an opinion...

I suggest you do not do it.

IMHO, I think it cheapens the look of the car.

Leave that showy stuff to the Lexus and Honda buyers, and the other kids that haunt the bling bling aisle at AutoZone.

Save the money, and get a few extra car detailings this year.
