Srs light on off
Hi, 2001 s500, 90k miles... Have the SRS light on and it sometimes goes off for a few seconds then comes on again... Someone said it could be the contact in the steering wheel...?
I've also got a message saying display unit malfunction but the display looks fine,it was replaced already under recall....
Ive recently done. The arnott airmatic replacement n put in their spoofer to get the error messages to clear...
Pls comment on what may be going on....
James...

I get the same thing. Mt srs light comes on when someone comes in and out of the passenger seat. It will stay on for an hour then turn of. Also if I have a passenger its never on. Its a bad sensor conman problem with these cars I don't mind it but some people don't want any lights on the dash

To me, it sounds like the problem may lie with the SRS sensor and it needing replacement. I had similar warning light and when I replaced the sensor, I've had no problems since ( that was 5k miles's ago).
I did however, read through the "S Class Owners Start Here" sticky to see if I could troubleshoot the SRS warning light myself before having the dealer replace the sensor.

Scroll to the Electrical section and follow the link for SRS light in addition to using MBWorld's search feature to find some more easy/inexpensive options for the fix before the sensor replacement....
I would at least try to do the inexpensive troubleshooting first because the sensor replacement cost me $1k....

Don't forget to check the passenger weight sensor connection under the seat; they can get grungy, and a simple cleaning with contact cleaner (available at stores such as Radio Shack) may cure the otherwise expensive problem.

ok..well, i guess there are other things to chk first ...tnx...
maybe it will be a simple connector issue under the seat....not the steering wheel contact for the bag.....
tnx, will chk and repost on my findings....
