infra red glass??? after market navi.

infra red glass??? after market navi.
since my s500 is an '02 i have the crappy navigation that gives no street name. when the wife uses the car she likes to use navigation but not the mercedes one. she borrowed a garmin and it did not work since the car has infra red glass. i know there are certain spots on the windshield where it would work but she feels its not a great spot and dosent work for her. are there any after market navigations that would work in the car?

Not too sure what infrared glass has to do with a radio frequency transmitter/receiver. The aftermarket navs like Garmin and TomTom do not receive signals from any infrared light source, Satellites are either HF or VHF AM frequencies and should have no problem getting a signal unless you are in a long or deep tunnel.
My wife's Garmin works in ANY car is it used in, including the S600 and my phone nagivation works just fine in my '02 S600. I am thinking you borrowed a defective unit. Also, (and someone correct me if I am wrong) don't you have a CD based nav system? Couldn't you just get a current set of discs that have the street names elaborated on the discs?
