Trying to remove shift assembly

Hey guys,

So today my shifter finally gave out on my 02 S430 and I was trying to remove the shift assembly but ran into this problem:

The metal piece sticking out of assembly is completely blocking the screw. I've looked up everywhere and it seems like I'm the only one having this issue... Any suggestions...?

It's a tight fit but you need to angle the bit and catch a part of the screw. It will work, don't give up.

I was able to take everything apart and put'em all back together, now im facing something else... The car won't start!! DOHHH!!!! The starter kind of starts and doesn't turn over and the brake is pressed all the way to the bottom. What did i do wrong? I hope i don't have to tow the car to the dealer after all this work...

Make sure you connected all the wires. Did you turn the car on while it was being remove? Make sure you connect everything first then...try to reset the car power. That may work.

I'm sure I've connected everything back the way it was. I even started the car and tested shifter before i put back the console and all worked fine. Then i took the keys out. One thing i noticed after putting console back was the shift was in D, i guess it got moved while i was figgiting with the console trying to put it back in... I wonder if this has anything to do with it.... How do you reset the car power?

It was dark out while i was doing this and i had dome and rear ceiling lights on for about 3 hours or more.... Could my battery have drained? Also, i don't understand why the brake is pressed all the way to the floor???

After some research, turning steering all the way to the left and all the way to the right fixed this but now my comand is out. I guess there is reset for this after battery change as well?
