I recently saw a S500 being parted out as the owner said he didn't have the key, I was just curious how you could start a car without one?

And if you did not have the title how can you obtain a key for the car besides going to the dealership?

My brother and I have the exact same car and am thinking of buying this parts car for the future if we need anything.

need a key to start the car and only way to get a key is the dealer and must have the title and it be in your name, MB is strict about this

Cant get a key without title, you might be able to get a lien sale title if its not stolen. You should take the vin to your police dept to confirm its not stolen before buying

Why do you need the key if it's going to be a parts car? Do you just want to see if it runs? Most of the parts except the computers will interchange

Yes I wanted to be able to start and move the car to see what works and what doesn't as it has been sitting for a few years. It would also be nice to be able to move the car around if need be.

Possibly, but more then likely it has a lien on the title and he just wants some sort of cash for it.

I would do a vin check on it to make sure either way tho.

what could be the logical reason for the supposed owner not to have a key or even to secure a new key from dealership? it does not even take a grade one to understand 1 + 1 = 2 hahahahah

it is possible to start an s class without a key...currently i don't have a key for mines because i accidentally drove over it (don't ask) but i drive mines everday. Keyless go with the card. Unfortunately the rest of the comments is true...no title no key.

he wasn't very specific and there was no mention of "hot wiring" if that's the case then NO you can't. too many things rely on the ezs and other sam'z just to start the car.
