+2 Good quality synthetic oil at a reasonable price. For daily drivers, it's good value.
Cheers,

where are you guys sourcing and @ what rate?

Any bulk? (srsly)... oil changes here (me/her) mean 18.5qts - yay! Pouring a quajillion tiny bottles grows old... and doesn't provide disposal storage (lame).

used to buy gallon jugs (mmm, jugs... bbbbbBbbbbbBb) @ Wallyworld, but their viscosity selection blowzorz

I got cases from my distributor which came out to be like $6.83/qt or so (not bad but not great, was using Shell Rotella T in my previous heaps which was less but Brad Penn in the 930 - friggin 13qts @ a time - was more... so a wash really).

oh, @ 18-22k/yr here no less... awesome

my dist said they do sell barrels 8-/

maybe I'll just moor a vessle next to the garage and pump it direct?

What miles interval is suggested on the M275... under er um enthusiast use?

Book prolly seyz 10k.

I used to do 5k in my Audi's, but wonder if 7.5k here is acceptable?

Bueller?

Mobile 1 comes in 5-quart jugs. Two jugs is good for me, per oil change. Which is nice 'cause I use the empty jugs to transport the used oil to the recycle facility. Knowing this generates a lot of 'warm' discussion, I change my oil at 5K intervals. Mobil 1 synthetic will last twice that length of time. But with MB Engine Engineers obligatory watching of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, there seems to be a trend of ever-shrinking oil filter size. I worry that today's dinky filters may catch stuff when an engine is new, but as the slimy, sludgy beast ages, that lil’ filter clogs sooner.

Cheers,
Jeff

I have never been able to find 0w-40 in the 5qt jugs anywhere. Walmart here used to carry them, not anymore. Per qt at Walmart is $6.40 I think? A million little bottles it is.

Mercedes recommends oil change every 12k miles I believe?

Lately I've seen Mobil1 Synthetic commercial boasting 15k mile intervals, but I'll stick with what Mercedes recommends, which is why I also stick with Mobil1.

Just filled my S600 with Mobil 1 Synthetic (European Car Formula).
Drained 8L out and poured 8.5L in, level checked perfect.
Manual indicated V12 holds 9L in total.

Thanks.

Correct on the European formula...so you say litres, and I've read about 9qts..can anyone confirm that?

confirmed - 9qts

not having a dipstick blows

stupid e-reader one day tells me add 2qts, one day 1qt, one day perfect

car has to be dead level, and, oil should be measured cold

anyone have the dipstick part # - I think I'd read here one is available for the M275 yes?

so still no suggested sources where to find M1 0w40 in gallon jugs? (mmmm, jugs)...

I recently found big jug Mobil 1 0w -40 at Advanced Auto Parts, $36 +tax. The one quart at major stores for $6 + pennies is a better deal, less convenient. Walmart carries big jugs for $26+ except the 0-40. Bummer.

Well as long as I know how much it's supposed to take I don't need a dipstick. My E takes 8, and once I put that much in I close the hood.

But starting off not knowing and without a dipstick...I'd be freaking out

Mercedes
The Valvoline Synpower 5w-40 is often cheaper and has rebates

Plus Valvoline offers a 300,000 mile engine guarantee if you stick with them and first installation is before 125,000 miles.

Paul,
No need for the dipstick...if you go to the "hidden" menu that allows you to put it into dyno mode (odometer mileage showing, key to position1 - I think, press reset a couple times...it will beep, and the battery voltage will show...scroll up and you'll get to a screen with all the VIN and software versions.) then turn key to position 2 and the oil level will display in a couple seconds to the closest tenth of a quart. If you start the engine and drive it will even give you realtime oil level in the pan.

Holy Technical Display, Batman... Marktan is correct. Key to position 1, display to odometer garbage, hit the Reset button three times in quick succession and 'bingo', you get to the secret decoder ring menu. Not sure yet what all the gobbledygook is/means yet, but it'll be fun to figure out! Thanks Marktan! Word of warning though, on my car the engine oil level was 5.4 quarts. I know it's full since I have a dip stick abscounded from a wrecking yard.
Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks for the kudos...Not meaning to doubt your dipstick, but the quantity displayed on all of my cars ('05 S600, '04 E500, '02 C32) are/were dead-on accurate. Coincidentally, on my way home today, my S600 just flashed the "Add 1.0 Qt". Just measured it after letting her rest for 30 minutes in the garage, and it's reading 5.9quarts. She's happy at 8.0-8.5 quarts, but displays "remove 0.5qt" if she's overfilled to 9.0qt.

(You mentioned the "gobbldygook"...I'm assuming you know about the "Dyno mode"? All the other numbers from the screen the oil level is on are the VIN, Engine model, and software versions)

Thanks, Marktan and Jeff.

That's so cool, .
My S600 oil level reading is 9.0L. Seems wasted money on the oil dipstick.
Wife said double check is always needed.

Best regards.

Yes, Slopoke.

There is a oil level display as you said which is for majority user to use. It is indicated in the user manual as well. This screen only tells you a brief oil level such as ok, need 1 liter...
But what Marktan said is a special screen for technician and it is not mentioned in the user manual. This screen tells your more acurate oil level reading like as 8.9L...

BTW, your S5000 should be a super long version, heard somewhere there was S1000 before, but nothing compare with yours,

Have a nice day, my friend.

opposite-lock...
Wow, thanks Mark! That's really cool.

Tho, your comment about it reading 5.9qts but only saying to add 1qt has me again wanting a dipstick! WTF's up w/ that? That's a huge disparity IMO. Did it need to sit longer after shutdown for the oil to dribble back into the sump more? One qt's worth.

Again, odd.

Thanks tho for the secret handshake - should be a post somewhere that sums up all of 'those'!!!

I'd run out and test mine now, but car's @ John Nouri's for some Broadway Performance lovin 8-)... *** rental car 8-/...(Fidelity pays rental muwhahaaa)...

Only one was made and I have it. It also take 900 quarts of oil. Crazy.
