Who is correct?

This is my dilemma, I just purchased a 2005 S430 and wanted to have Bluetooth installed. I called MB customer service to register my car and in the process asked them if they could tell me what i needed to get my Bluetooth running. She was pleasant and informed that my car was already pre-wired so all i needed to do was buy the "puck" and it was simple enough to do it myself. I called the MB dealer near me and they said to drive the car over and they would tell me how to install it. When i arrive they took a look at my center console (picture below) and informed me that my car is not wired for Bluetooth and it would be too expensive to do it.

My question is, who is correct... Is my 2005 wired as MB customer service indicated on the phone, or is the dealer correct? Why would any S430 sold in the US be wired differently.?
Also below is a picture on my radio that shows the Tel button as an option in case that helps any.

The center console is NOT wired for the Bluetooth puck on your car. As the dealer stated, too expensive to do it at this point.

This always boggled my mind how this was ever "optional" any car over $40,000 should be wired up with EVERYTHING, especially a Mercedes flagship sedan.

'94 SL600,'05 SL600,'06 S65,'07 E63,'14 E63S,'09SL600 all sold, ‘15 S65,‘18 E63S,'17 SL65, '17S65Cab
There were three possible configurations from the factory in those years. One was with the mount in the console and full programming in the Comand. All this needs is the Bluetooth device and it is ready. Second was called prewire. All cabling in place but not connected or enabled. I had this and had the dealer install the mount and enable the system. It was not cheap but it was doable. The third is nothing installed which then requires even more work; this appears to be your configuration. No idea what the retrofit cost would be.

Well I have a D2B car and I did it myself. You can pop off the vent/cover below vent on the back of the center console and see if the connector is there.. it's a RJ45 connection which looks like a big telephone jack. If that is there then you can buy the cable and puck, and that may be it.. I don't know anything about the phone system on the newer MOST cars.. I think the phone may be in the gateway in the back, or it could be like mine where you need the PSE.. Either way the actual cable that runs from back to front of car should be in every car. It's the same harness that holds the two mbrace buttons in the center console.. atleast on the D2b cars..

My exact thought.

I have an 06 600 has everything but dynamic seats, dynamic/ventilated rear seats, SAT RADIO and BLUETOOTH. I understand no dynamic, but why in the #$%^@%# do you check every option box under the sun but the sat and phone on a $140k car.

Same Harness in every S430

I agree that all the harness should be the same, that's what I'm trying to understand. Does anyone know what this connector is for?

Deuces, see http://www.benzworld.org/forums/audi...ades-plug.html - posts 1, 5 and 6 apply to your situation. Post 1 has sources of equipment as well as what "pre-wired" actually means, post 5 tells you what you need and contains links to the phone bulletins, which will answer many of your questions; and post 6 has compatibility information you might want to reference.

It was originally $799 and now its $699. That's still more expensive then the ones on eBay that Skylar provided the links too.

Beware, the ones on ebay, if not used, are without warranty. The manufacturer expressly forbids ebay or amazon sales and we are currently the only north american distributor. There are some old analog units that are floating around that ultimately came from a distributor that went belly up and never paid for them - therefor the manufacturer voided all warranty and they are not updatable anyhow due to the old analog chipset.
