Cd changer/whole panel problems

Hey guys, this is the first time i'm posting on here.

I drive a s500 01 and couple of months ago I had to change the CD changer because the magazine was stuck. For the first weeks everything was working just fine and suddenly i couldn't change the tracks because all of my buttons on my panel went out, except for the power button...

After restarting the car things got back to normal but it ended up doing the same thing again. At first i couldn't use any button (not even the ones on the steering wheel) but the music was still playing. Then i started hearing some weird noises coming from the sound system and the panel telling me "no CD changer".

Again, i restarted the car and took out all of the CD's except for one and started using MP3's instead of CD's and everything was working fine for the last month or so (notice that the one CD i left in the CD changer was working fine too).

But today, my dad used the car and inserted other Cd's in the changer and things got crazy all over again ...so here's my question: where's the problem coming from, Cd's that i'm using or the CD changer itself (and why are the buttons on my panel not working when this happens?)

Thanx

So a couple of months and more than 360 views later, no one has a solution? sorry if there's already another thread about this, but can't someone help me? fm modulator works great, but not being able to use my cd changer kind of pisses me off..

This seems to be a problem that requires the changer replaced. Search on various threads for repair but I'd let a dealer install it unless you are handy with modern electronics.

As newbie I'd search first, many have had this problem, before taking members to task

I'm not trying to take anybody to task am just asking for some help and I did search the forum. The problem is that most people have a magazine stuck issue...That was my issue when i first got the car, I since then took out my old changer and got me a new one that i've installed and everything worked fine for a couple of months.

I did read a lot of threads regarding the same issue as mine, and what I understand is that it could be a wiring thing... but my question is how come that one cd that is now in my cdc works but everytime a put another one i loose all my command?

This happened to me as well. There is a ribbon cable inside the unit that cracks and fails. You can get a replacement on ebay for about $46 and carefully replace the ribbon cable. I have a spare in fact. ebay and search for MERCEDES BENZ 6 CD CHANGER FLEXI RIBBON/ FLAT CABLE FOR MC3010 NEW

Thanks jnash, i'll definitely check that out. But would my cdc being able to read one of my cds but going bad every time i insert another one a sign of a ribbon cable going bad? or would it just not read any cd? Thanks

Possibly. I am uncertain of the signals in the ribbon cable. All I know is that I could not eject the Cd cadi until I replaced the cable and that when it was broke I could not see the CD list from Comand. If you dismantle your changer and look carefully at the ribbon cable you may observe fine cracks in the track along the foil. I scraped back the insulation and soldered some very fine gauge wire across the tracks to repair it.
