RennTech, Lorinser, Carlsson, etc..
There are a lot of tuners that have ECU and or Exhaust uprgades. Can anyone tell if those modifications yeild significant gains in throttle response? Or will major gains only be seen, heard and felt with major engine changes? I am fairly new to this, having recently picked up a loaded '00 S430. Thanks!

2004 S 600
RennTech ECU upgrade does great on S class. Check out Treynors posts of his RennTech 2003 S600 at the dragstrip. His puts out 663 HP with a 0-60 of 3.3 sec. and 1/4 mile of 11.5.
Renntech has a 430 upgrade ECU.

Actually, my car just has a RENNtech ECU (and brakes and wheels), but it's a factory twin-turbo V12, so gains are easily had. The 430 will also pick up power & throttle response with an ECU, but not on the scale of a turbo car.

Wait for the September issue of Car & Driver; they have street times for my car's 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, and 0-130 in the article. I've promised I will not divulge the numbers before they do.

Yes, 0-130. We actually tested 0-160
but I don't think they are publishing those numbers.
The ECU does not appear to void warranty, since some dealers install it. However, that assumption has yet to be tested.

2004 S 600
Actually met with MB zone rep in SE. I'm getting 2004 S600 w/ RennTech ECU upgrade. All that this does is turn the 600 engine into a Maybach spec engine. Rep explained that full warranty would still be honored since the engine is still a MB spec engine.
One point he did bring up was that the transmission in the S600 "might" have problems w/ the Maybach horespower. Also, he said one didn't have to worry about that with 2004 model since he thought that it would be fitted with a new 7 speed automatic that will handle HP more efficiently.
