airmatic pump issues and testing
Got a 2002 S430 and the entire car i low, cant even get a floor jack underneath the car. i just took out my airmatic pump tonight and got it on my work bench and applied 12volts on the thicker gauge wires (red/white +pos and brown -neg) , the pump didnt run, bad pump?. BUT i also put a voltage meter on the thicker gauge wires that i unplugged from pump underneath the car. I cant read any voltage while the car engine is running or key in ON position. I DO get 9volts on the smaller gauge wires. So i checked fuses 9, 32 (40Amps) and 46, and they are all good. i also got 80ohms on the relay (label O) between 2 of the 4 pins. Before I took out the pump, I removed the host going to the pump filter and i dont feel any air and I didnt feel that the pump was running as well. my question is, is there suppose to be voltage coming from the thicker gauge wires when its not connected to the pump?

Relay is in OFF position when you have pump unplugged, hence, no voltage reading in thicker gauge wires. Waiting on pump and replay from AutohausAZ $317+$10.

Airmatic pump (p/n 2113200304) and relay (p/n 2542131) came in today, installed tonight after work. You need to remove the rubber grommets from the old pump and put into new pump. Had to use a jack stand to keep pump in place so I can hold springs, washer-tube, washer, nut and bracket at the same time. The springs can actual stay inside the rubber grommet. If you have an older S-Class like me (2002 or earlier), AutohausAZ and other sites will tell you to buy the older style hydraulic line (part number 2203270000) for $60. What they're not telling you is that older hydraulic line is problematic (known to leak around plastic fittings). The new pump has the new hydraulic line (which has the same part number than the older hydraulic line, go figure) and the T-joint is now one piece instead of a rubber fitting that would leak after some time. If you have a working pump, but keep blowing the 40Amp fuse (fuse 32), you can order the new hydraulic line from dealer and change the old hydraulic line. Anyway, with the new pump, the hydraulic line fitting is now on the opposite side (closer to the electrical connections), that means the rubber hose from the airmatic filter is too short. Instead of buying the problematic hydraulic line, just buy a longer rubber hose which is a lot cheaper than the problematic hydraulic line. Anyway, I will post pictures of the old pump later. Hope someone can find this info useful.

Thank you Ben for the post. I also need to replace my airmatic pump on my S500. If I'm understanding you correctly.Your saying for the older S classes, we shouldn't use the hydraulic lines that they say is needed for the replacement?

Here's a youtube video that shows the difference between the old and new hydraulic line. You will see why you need a longer rubber hose. The connection for the updated hydraulic line is on the opposite side of the pump, which is away from the filter.
Sorry if I'm not suppose to post other people's video. I dont know if there are any guidelines on doing that.....still a forum newbie.

Correct! For your 2000 S500, you WANT the hydraulic line that comes with the new pump. Just remove the old rubber hose that connects from the pump to the airmatic filter and bring it to your local auto parts store. You need approximately 10-12inches, just cut it to length when you get the new hose.
