I have a 2004 S500 4Matic with the sport package. The car has a vibration that starts aound 60-62 mph. The wheels and tires have been ruled out as the cause. Ideas??????

96 and 08 911 turbos
driveshaft carrier bearing, flex disks, suspension components, alignment of the stars etc.
There are hundreds of things that can cause vibration. In such a tight range though, I'm betting its wheel/tire balance.
Have they been roadforce balanced?

Same problem here
I have a 2004 S500 4matic and the car vibrates as well around 60-65mph. I have ordered from Mercedes all the parts to rebuild the driveshaft including both flex discs. A local driveshaft rebuilder is taking it out and replacing all the parts for about $150.00 labor. My problem more has to do with the noise on decel. Sounds like a carrier bearing. Previous owner replaced the motor and tranny mounts in the 90k range and probably hurt the carrier bearing in the process. Currently has 115k miles. To top it off I have a bad left lwr ball joint that is noisy on big bumps. Will let you know what happens and see if the vibration is fixed.

I have been doing some extensive research and I am now highly suspecting it is the wheel bearings even if they are not noisy. It is important to inspect them carefully to make sure there is no burned grease or it is missing or dirty or loose (check clearance). If the bearings are loose or have not been looked at in a long time and there is any play in the bearing you will get steering wheel shake at higher speeds. I have been experiencing lately that the shaking is less even non existant when the car is cold and as it gets hotter the shaking gets worse. I guess the clearances open up. Very strange how Mercedes and other German cars have the same wheel virbration balancing issues.
I am now determining if I should buy new hubs or buy just the bearings and press them out manually. What a pain...
