Sunroof Seal replacement
has any one attempted this, accodring to star service it requires passenger front seat, srs air bags in b pillar, headliner, and a slew of harness connecters that make it all work. so my question is this, can one of the certified mechs chime in that have performed this task and tell me is there any way to manufacture specialty wrenches to remove the hardware using the space between the headliner and car chassis roof, lower the seal flange assembly and R&R the seal?. i realize that it will be tough but the alternative is a $1000 labor and possible "butchery" of the headliner to replace the simple seal which i allready have.

There is a lot of confusion about this issue and most times you don't need to do that much work. If your sunroof is leaking, it is almost always because the drains are clogged. Open the sunroof and pour some water in the gutters while checking behind all 4 wheel wells. If any are not draining, force some compressed air toward the corners and it should clear up.

Not familiar with the details on the Mercedes sunroof drains, but on the Porsche 928, compressed air applied to a blocked drain can result in blowing the rubber drain hose off of the metal tube down inside the A-post or C-post. This requires some serious disassembly to fix.
The standard repair for the 928 is to use the largest square or star-shaped weed-whacker line that you can get and roto-root the drain. Some folks use a battery-powered drill at low speed to rotate the weed-whacker line.
