Ball joint??
Steering to the left consistently makes knocking noise. It is getting worse.
Car moves or not, it is the same.
No steering or right steering - no noise.
Could you advise or refer to a thread?
Thanks

Well, I jacked up the car and inspected the suspension.
The noise replicated, and I could feel a little the rattling by hand at the tie rod end ball joint. It looks pretty straightforward to change.
Is there any special trick to care for?
I'm sure after the job an alignment is due.
Please comment.

Well if it is the ball joint you will need one of these tools to press it out. I was able to borrow one at Advance Auto. You will need the adapter for the Mercedes.
Here is a youtube video that might help a bit.

Thanks Ibeforreal,
The video is a real help.
I'll start with the tie rod end replacement, that is creaking for sure.
Then I'll see if any other joint needs attention.

Unfortunately, the plan changed, the whole rack/pinion assembly must be replaced plus the two lower control arms.
But the ball joint tool will be needed, thanks again Ibeforreal.
If MB drivers want to save megabucks on steering/suspension repair, try to avoid running in the worst potholes in the country. Our cars don't like it.
