2002 Mercedes s600 cps location

What's up room hope all is well, I have a dilemma with my s600 the other day I was driving and she just cut off at a stop sign whe I tried to restart just got a funny sound but it wasn't turning over , take it it was just the stater but anyway after about ten mins or so it started right up and was driving well until today it did it again this time service engine light came on for about twenty mins then cleared itself I scanned it and got a code for the crankshaft position sensor. I read a few threads on here but can't seem to find the exact location of it. If anyone could give me step by step instruction it would be deeply appreciated, illustrations even better. Thanks in advance

Here is a very good video that shows the CPS on a S500 being replaced. I'm not sure if it is in the same location on a S600 but if it is the task is quite easy. It took me about 20 minutes to change mine. That little nut that holds the sensor in place after you remove the wire can cause you the most problems. Just don't drop it and if you do you will need one of those antennae type magnets to locate it assuming it doesn't fall on the ground. The space is a bit type so if you have big hands it might take some time.

Here is the video.

Thanks for the video, I located the cps now my new problem is trying to get to it, there is no room shop wants close to 900 to do the job. I hate to pay that when I can see the dang on sensor just 1 screw holding it. I don't have the mechanic ability to mess around with the intake. If you or anyone else can do anything to help me please do so

Assuming you followed the video then the S600 must be in the same location as the S500. Well if you have gotten to the point where you can see it you're almost there. There is only one screw holding it in. I believe it is a size torx T30. you will need a ratchet with a long extension to get down to the screw.

You might try loosening the screw up to a point where it is almost but not all the way out. Then you could do as I did and get one of those magnetic antennae (less than $5 from Advanced Auto or Autozone) and loosen it the rest of the way.

You can also buy the replacement part at either one of those places (I did). Just don't go for the cheap part because they have several options. However, the part will cost less than $100. To save additional money just look for Advance Auto promo codes on google. They always have some type of promotions going on. Incidentally, I have no affiliation with Advanced Auto or Autozone, just trying to save you some money.

Someone charging $900 to do this job is almost criminal. Good luck in your efforts.

The socket needed on my 2003 S430 was a female T-8 - the fastener is an external spline.

Use the socket and extension to loosen the fastener, then start gently pulling up on the wire harness to the sensor. When the fastener comes out of the threads, pull the sensor up and out with the socket still on the fastener.

Remove the socket and fastener, push on the release clip and unplug the old sensor. Plug the new sensor onto the harness, put the fastener into the hole on the sensor, and put the socket and extension on the fastener. Use the harness and the extension to guide the sensor into place, and start the fastener using the extension as you keep upward pressure on the wire harness. Tighten the fastener - done.

Just wanted to thank you guys for your assistance , it was a hard job , but I managed to pull it off. The cps on the s600 is a lot harder to get to compared to the video which shows a v8 engine, but it was helpful. I had to use a 14 inch wobble extension, and a swivel to get the sensor out. Also I had to end up disconnecting the battery to reset CPU afterward because in the morning when car was cool it performed terrible sounded like backfiring or bad gas car would cut off then service code came back. So I reset it and all has been fine so again I thank you guys
