W220 Unusual Braking Noise
Have a 2003 S600. Love the car. Have a squeaking type noise when I brake with medium to firm pressure. The noise seems to come from directly under the mid console which is weird. I pulled the front pads which were in great shape and reinstalled with fresh goop (they have window shims and appear OE). This made no difference. Rear pads appear in great shape. Car has 25000 miles.
Some say the noise sounds a little like a fluid pushing. Could it be a brake line to the rear from the Master? Could it be a rotor simply transferring noise through the frame? Did notice that both front rotors have a very slight outside edge, but, no more than I've seen on many rotors. Am new to site but have already had great luck from these posts. Thanks for any comments. eds4526

MBWorld Fanatic!
Any possibility that the noise could actually be from the driveshaft center bearing area as a result of slight engine or rear end movement?

Hello;
I have a w220 2003.
The mechanic says I need wheel bearings. But he says that They come with the hubs. Do I have to replace the hubs or I can replace the bearings only. Also do I need any special tools for that?
Thank you so much
Antoine

I also have a 2003 w220 s500. I just had my right front wheel bearing replaced and will be picking vehicle up at dealer today. I would have done it myself but you have to remove the knuckle and press the bearing out from the inside of the knuckle. The book time to replace knuckle is 3.4hrs and an extra .5 for bearing. I do not recommend doing this yourself. You will need a 10 ton press and the correct plates for pressing out the bearing and the hub. It has an aluminum knuckle. Any unwanted pressure can break it.

My experience. wheel bearing
Hi guys. I just repacked a front wheel bearing on my 2003 S600. It was easy to remove and inspect/replace or repack this bearing. Simply remote the dust cap (don't smash it); remove the locking nut by loosening the nut, then screwing off the retaining nut; then pop out the bearing.
