2003 S430 Catalytic Converter

I just discovered the left catalytic converter is defective and has a severe rattle. The car has 70,000 miles on it and is 10 years old so I don't believe their is any warranty on the converters. I have found a shop that is willing to cut out the converters and replace with new pipe (thus eliminating the converters) will this create an issue with the O2 sensors?

I might be wrong but I thought the converters had a warranty of at least 80,000 miles no matter what year of the car. You might want to check with you MB dealer before you spend a lot of unnecessary money. If the dealer says no I would call the Mercedes line. I believe the number is 800 3676 3723 in the US.

Good luck.

To answer your question of whether removing the cats would affect the O2 sensors. If it is the rears that are rattling then they are downstream of the O2's and will not affect them. However, removing the forward Cats may be another issue.
