Welcome to the forums.

MB ATF you need:
MB 236.14 latest
MB 236.12
MB 236.10

Check the MB website to find out compatible fluid of other brand. For your W220, always stick with above specifications.

BTW, OE means parts with MB lable which, most of the time, sold by MB dealers; OEM means parts build by MB supplier but without a MB lable, which is cheaper than OE.

I went through this (the best spec cunundrum) with the engine oil in my 02S500. After talking with the local service adviser (mechanic type at the local mb shop), he raised the question higher in the loop to get a clear answer. His answer, anything that is specified in your year's specification or higher. It is not always better to go to the higher spec, again depending on the manufacturer's, mb in this case, recommendation. Just adhere to the original manufactures recommendations on change history.

As I said this applied to the oil specifically at the time. I have subsequently been reinforced with the transmission fluid recommendation with my vehicle, so in my case if my memory is good, I'm going with a 236.14 Shell ATF134 that I got for a good price

I'm not sure which specification is applicable, but my MB Dealer parts guys tell me Shell ATF-134 Transmission Fluid is a direct replacement in my '05 S55. Attached is Shell ATF-134 Product Data Sheet. Also, I attached a couple MSDS's in Post #8, https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...ion-issue.html
While they do not give any technical application data, they do support the direct replacement claim. Perhaps you can find this fluid, assuming your transmission is the same as mine (722.6).
Cheers,
Jeff

Attached is the document I was trying to find. On page 6, you'll find the second-source ATF for a 2001 MY. Should be the same through the W220 series with a 722.6 transmission.
Cheers,
Jeff
