that's not quite correct the four parts you need to swap are the key, ignition switch , shifter and ecu. you don't need to change the srs (which is the airbag supplement restraint system ) or the cluster 98-02 clk class shifter does not need to match the EIS and ECU

ECU swap is possible, but requires changing of the fuel injector. The biggest problem is not the ECU itself, but that there are no turbo calibrations for the new engine. Other issue is that the new engine will have different power curves and different torque levels, requiring calibration changes. Please have a look at the embedded one if you are confused about ECU.
