Help Ensure Mechanical Key Opens Trunk

While repairing the soft-close function of my trunk lid, I took time to study how the design works for using the mechanical key. IMHO, there is a weak link in the design as there is a plastic snap that holds a steel actuation rod in place. If the plastic snap were to fail for any reason, the mechanical key would not be able to unlatch the trunk lid. To remedy this potential situation, I installed a single, small tie-wrap around the snap. This should give additional strength to the snap, even if the plastic begins to deteriorate. Should you tear apart the trunk to install a single tie-wrap? No. But if you are in that deep, take an extra 30 seconds and add a tie-wrap for a bit of long-term insurance.
Cheers,
Jeff
